Tunnel

I know that all of you are aware of the current condition or our dear Grandmother. I was getting and update from the Patriarch and he informed me today that she cannot see out of one eye and has sever tunnel vision in the other. You have to get really close to her before she can see or recognize you. I cannot imagine how hard that must be for her. We all know how much she uses her hands and eyes.

Since that conversation, I have been thinking about it. Other situations have brought it to new light. Grandma knows what she has lost. She recognizes it and I am sure her heart is torn apart over it. I also know what a go getter she is. I am sure that she will do everything in her power to regain that independence, that she has lost, back. I hear that she has improved greatly over the past few days.

As I have thought about it, I wonder how many people just don't see what is right in front of them. How many don't recognize what they can have?

I thought about the Israelites. They had a grave case of tunnel vision. They saw only what they wanted to see. They felt that they were entitled to certain privileges because they were "The Chosen People". They did not want to have to do anything for the land they felt they were entitled to. Why did they have to wander in the wilderness? Why did the have to make sacrifices? Why did they have to be tried and tested? Why didn't the Lord just remove the people from their land and let them walk in?

When I look back, I see all the things that the Lord did for them. He provided for them all the way. He protected them. He led them. He instructed them. And yes he expected something from them in return. Why didn't they see it?

I think it was because their vision was prohibiting them. They were only worried about themselves, not about the welfare of others. They did not see beyond themselves. The Lord tells us that we must lose ourselves in the service of others in order to find or see ourselves. We need to see their suffering and want to make it easier. We need to see their sacrifices and want to light them. We need to recognize what they do and share our heart felt appreciation.

Have you made it out of the wilderness? Or are you still in the woods allowing the forrest to block our vision? Think about it.
