1 Nephi 2:16
What a grave contrast from his brothers Nephi was. When Nephi did not know or understand what his father was teaching, he went to the Lord. What does this say about Nephi? Do you think that if he had a problem in school, he went to the Lord? Do you think he went to his father and mother?
I wonder if Laman and Lemuel felt like their father was always yelling at them. I wonder how Lehi dealt with these conflicts in his life. I wonder what I can do to be more like him.
After Nephi asked, he listened. He did not just say the words, he actually went out and followed them. He opened himself to the Lord, asked him for help, asked him for guidance and then he followed through.
I think it is also important to note that he had to be following the commandments of God first. He had to have faith that the Lord would answer him. He did not just go out and pray. We all have to follow the same path.
So how do we do this? How do we open our hearts to receive the guidance we desire? We do what Nephi did.
I am sure he was just like us. He had his challenges, frustrations, weaknesses, and doubts. He over came them by moving forward, putting his trust in the Lord, questioning, but to learn not resist, then he accepted the guidance and followed.
