Testing
I had the opportunity to hear a young man report on his mission the past weekend. I was impressed with his growth and understanding of the gospel. He talked about the challenges of being a missionary. He mentioned the struggles he had through out the experience. Then he realized that his brief two year experience really was no different than life. The only difference he could see was that his attention was pointed more to the Lord during those times. He learned that it should be this way through out the rest of his life.
However, there was one statement that he used that I have been thinking about a great deal this week. He testified that he learned and taught people to put the Lord to the test. He will always come through for you. I don't agree with that completely.
I don't think that we should ever put the Lord to the test. He is not the one living a life of probation. We are. We were sent here to be tested. He has already gone through that process and proven himself worthy. Now it is our turn. When we are testing a commandment or promise from the Lord, we are testing our own faith. We are testing our wills, our commitment, our desires, our salvation. Think about it. Are YOU up to the test? The Lord will always fulfill his end. He has already proven that. The rest is up to you.
