His Light
I started wondering last night as I read about the light of Christ. There are so many references to it. Yet, do we really understand what it means. In the 17th chapter of 1 Nephi, Nephi relates how the Lord had blessed them. He talks about not having had any fire for the time they were in the wilderness. That was almost 8 years.
Can you imagine what it would be like not to have fire, or in other words, light. When does the sun set? How did they read? What did they do after the sun went down?
The Lord was their light, their guide, their strength. In today's world, would you be able to eat raw food if the Lord told you to? Do you have that faith? He promised that he would guide them to the land of promise if they just kept His commandments.
This is pretty amazing to think about. Maybe we should try it for a year? Do you think we could live a year with out power? How cold do you think their baths were? What would we do after the sun goes down? That would mean, no TV, no computer, no heat, no light in the house? Could we do it? What could we do to prove we have the same kind of faith? Nephi said that with this promise, he continually strove to keep the commandments.
