Alice's Talk
This morning we had the opportunity to hear from some dear friends in our ward. I was touched by a couple of the talk. Young Ethan did a wonderful job of talking about the importance of honoring your parents. I hope that those of you who were present noted the prophetic exhortations that he shared:
-don't do things to embarrass your parents, it is their right to do the embarrassing.
-don't yell.
-be grateful.
-do what you are asked when you are asked, not when you are off the phone, your favorite show is over, after you have died in your video game, but right now, when they ask.
It was a good talk.
However, it was Alice's talk that had me thinking. She talked about communicating with our Heavenly Father. He wants us to talk to him. He misses us. Sometimes it is good to just go to him to talk. That is why we have prayer.
Her words made me think of a recent conversation I had with Princess. She was struggling with some technical things. She called to see if I could help. I was really happy to hear her voice and know that I was still needed. I wanted to do all that I could to help her. Unfortunately, the thing she was asking was not something I could do from a long distance. I suggested that she go to other individuals that were closer to her or that could help her virtually.
I wonder how many times the Lord does the same thing when we call him. He wants desperately to help us, but sends us to or sends someone to help us. I don't know that it is not because he can't help us. Unlike myself, I truly believe that he could do anything. However, he does not always do the work himself. He utilizes his children to complete some tasks.
Why to do you think that is? I think it is his way of helping us learn to be like him. We also build closer family bonds when we help each other. I encourage you to go to the Lord often. Listen to his answers. When called upon, go and do what he has asked you to accomplish.
