Scripture Thought 9/26/09

1 Nephi 3:31

After all that has just happened to Laman and Lemuel, they still doubt. I wonder how many of us do the same thing? Do we really see all of the miracles, the wonders, the power of God right before our eyes? When we see these things and then come to face a challenging situation, do we doubt? Are we fearful of what the world will do to us? We should not be.

Our focus should not be on what we cannot do, but what the Lord will do for us. Don't get caught up in the fears and faithlessness of the world. Always be believing.

We can learn another lesson from this scripture. The Lord will never take away our agency. Even when we have been visited by one of his messengers. Even when we have felt the power of his hand, he will not force us to do something. He will allow us to make the choice. It is all up to us.

I sometimes struggle with this. When I do everything I can to provide a spiritual experience. When I do everything I can to say the right words, set the right example, and then testify of the truth; the spirit will be there. The spirit will do his part, but we still have the agency. We can still choose not to listen, feel, or hear that spirit that is before us.

Now don't get me wrong. We should not give up on trying. We should not stop trying to prepare and have these moments, but we must also realize that in the end, it is up to the individual to accept and receive. The Lord only asks that we do our part.
