Present
Reflect on your present blessings, of which every man has many; not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.
Yesterday, I spent the afternoon/evening with family. It was great. I really enjoyed the opportunity to spend time together. I missed several, but we were updated. But when I found this quote today, it made me of the blessings of family. I truly count them as many.
As one of my gifts, I received a book. After everyone had departed to their own personal abodes, I took a moment to read the preface. One of the comments was about famous people in history not really living in the past, they all lived in the present.
They were not able to look back on their lives and say, this is where we failed, they lived life as they were living it. They did not know whether they were going to fail or succeed. They had know idea that the things they were accomplishing were going to be key turning points in history. They just lived. They just did their best. They over came the challenges placed before them and moved forward.
We can learn a great deal from them. We need to live in the present. We cannot waste time trying to catch up to what we did not do in the past. If we are living now, we won't have to worry about playing catch up from things we did not do in the past.
Please, live now. Live it to the best of your ability. Don't put now off. Don't let it be come something that bothers you, haunts you, or makes your present life miserable because it was not lived properly in the past.
