Scripture Thought 9/9/09

1 Nephi 3:16-20

There is a great lesson to learn from these verses. Nephi did not get up and command his brothers. He did not demand that they do something. He explained himself. It makes me wonder how the decided to go on the first trek to the city and visit Laban. Did Nephi let his older brothers lead in this instance? Did they go the Lord with this matter?

Their first attempt did not go so well. In this second attempt, Nephi thought it out in his mind. He thought about all parties involved. What did they want? What did Laban want? With this train of thought, Nephi came up with a solution to the plan and moved forward with it.

This is the way the Lord wants us to deal with our lives. When faced with a challenge, he does not want to so go on chance, drawing lots. He wants us to reason it out in our minds, do our best to figure out a solution and then move forward in faith.

Nephi in his reasoning, also had to figure out a way to explain to this brothers the importance of this task. He was ok with the idea that the Lord had commanded them, but his brothers needed more. Nephi, in is counseling with the Lord was able to understand this and verbalize it to this brothers. We need to do the same in our lives.
