Expectation
Last night I attended a meeting that revealed thoughts and ideas that set me to thinking. I do that a great deal. I let things get into my head and then I think about them. As you can tell from the title of this blog, I am concerned about expectations. I know that I have talked about these things before, but last evenings discussion has brought it to light again.
What is expected of us? Some times I worry that we put expectations on ourselves because of what we think others expect of us. We set a standard for ourselves that may be very high, so that others will not lower their expectations of us. So, I want to try to make it clear. Having high expectations of oneself is not bad. In fact, it is very important that we recognize who we are, what we can become, and understand our own personal potentials as sons and daughters of God.
However, yep there is a however, it is important to understand that we are in a learning stage in our lives. There maybe times that we make mistakes or don't live up to the expectations other may have or the expectations that we think others have of us. The Lord knew this would happen. It is the reason he added the Atonement to the Plan. If you ever find yourself in a position where you make a mistake, the only person whose expectations you should be living up to are those of the Lord. We should not let the expectations of man allow us to justify, hide, or ignore those that the Lord has set. When we make a mistake, he has provided a plan that allows us to erase those mistakes. We should only fear Him. When we start hiding, justifying, or ignoring these mistakes, we are only following the promptings of Lucifer.
Don't let your fear of your standing with man, me, the Queen, your friends, or other become a reason for these types of justifications. I promise that the short term disappointments will be covered by joyous times spent together throughout the eternities if you focus on what the Lord desires of you, doing what we need to do to return to him, and spend eternity with those you love.
Hope this makes sense. Set your priorities in the right place. Fear those who are worthy of fear.
