Differences
Yesterday was an interesting day. I was home all day with Little Man. It was nice. We cleaned, washed, cut, and worked together. Then we made some soup. It was our ward's Trunk or Treat night. There was a great showing. We had about 8 tables that went the entire width of the gym. They were all pretty full. I was amazed at how many people were really there. We all had a great meal. Soup and rolls.
After dinner, clean up started and story reading in the RS room. I was given outside duty in our family. It was my job to hand out the candy from our trunk. That is when the real difference appeared. It was strange how several people just decided to leave their children at the church and go home. Not long after that, the children started moving into position.
Interestingly enough, there were some children who started approaching the trunks that were open tentatively. Once it started, the others followed. I watched some children go through the trunks without hesitation, others hung back and waited for their parents or older siblings. Then the children who started going through the line first, removed their masks or parts of their costumes and went through again. It didn't take long for some to start following suite. Many of them were the children of those adults who left.
What I found most interesting was the fact that there were some children who only went through once. Then they stopped. One of them parked his behind in the car next to me. His siblings were going around more than once, but he just stayed there. He first asked his Mom, then he asked me if they were allowed to go around more than once. I looked over at him and told him that he could do what ever he felt was right. He stayed in the back of the car. I was impressed.
I realized that we were all different. Some had the strength to stand up for those differences, others didn't. As those with out any fear or guilt started coming around for the 3rd of 4th time, I started trading candy. Instead of handing it out, I would trade a piece for a piece they did not want. I was being just a little bit different. Pretty soon, they were not coming to my trunk, well unless they realized that they could get something they wanted for something they did not want.
They all moved to get head, some got ahead differently than others. Isn't it interesting how we are all different.
