Watching
I just spent an enjoyable evening trying to stay warm. I was given the opportunity to attend a BYU football game with family. It was quite interesting. I found myself watching people. I love to see the variety of those around me. Some were freezing, some were annoyed, and some were more interesting in their hair and the texts they were receiving on their cell phones that the game did not really matter.
I was there by invitation. I was humbled and grateful for the opportunity to be there, especially with family. It was not too cold, though we prepared for the worse. The game was great. There was lots of excitement and thrill.
However, I could not help but what the others were thinking. One individual appeared to be very discouraged that the Y was not playing as well as he thought they should. He was letting everyone around him know how disappointed he was. Was he as grateful for the opportunity?
The two couples in front of me were more interested in each other, well except for one. They spent the entire evening making jokes, trying to impress, and looking for ways they could get the others attention. When they thought the game was won, they left, missing several exciting plays.
There was one young man in front of us who spent more time fiddling with his hair, hat, and cell phone to even know what was happening around him. He appeared to be there by obligation and nothing else.
It amazes me that we were were all there, experiencing the same event, but getting something completely different out of it. Isn't life that way? What are you getting out of it?
