1 Nephi 1:19-20
Who are the Jews? Are we talking about the people as a whole or just the leaders/Elders of the Jews? Were they the ones of influence the felt Lehi might take away some of their power and authority? How many of us are like these Jews? Many times the easiest way of dealing with what you don't want is "out of sight, out of mind". If they could get rid of Lehi, the problem would go away. However what about those that once believed and then decided to stop. Were they worried about giving up temporal pleasures? How many people just stop going to church, because it gets in the way of their weekend pleasure?I envision Lehi trying to do his best in all circumstances to spread the word and knowledge he had received. It did not always go well from him. We don't know how many actually listened to his words. How many followed like he did. Maybe it was because they were following that the leaders of the Jews wanted to get rid of Lehi.We see here that the Lord will always protect us, when we are doing what he has asked of us, even when it does not seem like he is. Read the histories of those where were. Some suffered greatly before the Lord intervened with power. Some we never read about. They endure, they are blessed, and they keep moving on. Even when facing the most difficult of challenges. They endured. We need to do the same.
