Revisited
I had an interesting experience today that has me thinking. Things have really, really slowed down at work right now. The economy is not doing to well, people are not sure if they want to make travel plans, and companies are cutting back. Leadership has allowed as many people who want to go home without pay to do it and they still wish more would go. Since those who are working aren't really doing much, they ask my department to take them off the phones.
I had the opportunity to take 25 people off the phones today for 3 hours. I spent time reviewing new programs, changes in policy, helping agents interpret corporate communications they way corporate wanted them to, and then opened myself up to questions. It was very productive in a sense. They may not have been making money for the company, but we were preparing them to do so when the call volume returns. I was helping them feel more confident in their understanding, proficiency, and knowledge base. It was good.
Tonight I started thinking about how cool it would be to have little moments like that with the gospel. Then I realized that we do. Each week we attend church. However, I wonder if we are going to that meeting as hungry for knowledge and understanding as those who I sat with were today. I spent 3 hours with them. The same amount of time we would spend at block meetings.
We talked about the things they have learned as of late and asked how they were going, corrected them on some minor mistakes, challenged them to improve, and reminded them where they can do better. They came with questions. Don't we have the same opportunity each week? We are reminded, corrected, and challenged to improve. How many of us do? How many of us apply what we have learned? How many of us go prepared to learn? How many of us accept the challenges to improve?
What a great opportunity we have each week. Please don't let it pass you by. Take advantage of it. Your lives will be blessed because of it.
