Scripture Thought 10/19/08

1 Nephi 2:2-3

What does the Lord command? Did Lehi have a choice? I am sure he did. We are led to believe that commandment was to save his life. Yet how could this be seen as saving his life. Lehi takes his family and leaves all the comforts of life he had built for him and them. Where does he go, to dwell in a tent. However, if you look at the cross reference, this was more of a calling than a commandment. He was being called to a distant land to teach and preach. It was like a mission call.Lehi demonstrates his faithfulness.

This is a powerful statement, "He was obedient."
What was he obedient in:
1- to the word. What does this imply about the written word? Scripture?
2- he did as he was commanded.

Did this all come in a dream? Did he get this commandment from a prophet? Note that he did what he was commanded in both word and voice. He studied the scriptures, he followed the prophets, and he listened to the promptings of the still small voice.
